Young Sounds of Indonesia
In January 2011, OneDollarForMusic launched a pilot for a new, major project: "Young Sounds of Indonesia". The aim of this multi-year program is to strengthen the cultural infrastructure and create jobs for unemployed musicians. The initial site of the pilot is in Lombok, where 18 of our musiccoaches are working with local schools, youth communities and local non-governmental organizations (NGO) for children with disabilities.
Throughout the project, a professional camera crew will be shooting footage for a video documentary. The documentary will be broadcast on national TV channels, offering a valuable opportunity to raise awareness with the general public. Below, please find a sample clip of the documentary.
The ultimate result is that inspired, motivated youth in Indonesia will finally receive access to facilities, knowledge and professional guidance, both within the school and in youth communities. This relationship with partners and local authorities will pave the way for new facilities and jobs for musicians.
For the project in Lombok, the Dutch Embassy in Jakarta granted more than 50,000 euros, about 70% of the total budget for the project. We are working diligently with this funding, and are busy securing the remaining 30% through sponsorship and donations.
